Job Description

Adaptive Strength and Conditioning Intern

The duties outlined below provide a comprehensive overview of the expectations for this internship. However, as part of the University of Michigan Adaptive Strength and Conditioning Program, adaptability and flexibility are key components of the role. Interns should be prepared to adjust responsibilities based on the evolving needs of the program, including unforeseen challenges or opportunities that arise during training, events, or competitions.

This position requires a dynamic approach, and interns will have the opportunity to contribute in diverse ways, ranging from hands-on athlete support to administrative or event-related tasks. The ability to adapt and respond to changing circumstances is vital to the success of both the program and the intern's professional development.

 

Training Support

  • Assist in setting up and breaking down equipment for practices and training sessions

  • Support athletes during training by providing feedback under the guidance of coaches.

  • Record and analyze training performance metrics using software or spreadsheets.

  • Facilitate individualized athlete needs, including modifications or accommodations for adaptive equipment and movement prescriptions

  • Ensure a safe training environment by monitoring proper equipment usage and addressing potential hazards.

 

Event Coordination

  • Help organize and coordinate Para Powerlifting team participation in competitions, including travel arrangements, schedules, and logistics.

  • Assist with planning and executing special events such as clinics or community outreach initiatives.

  • Manage event-day logistics, including athlete travel, check-ins, warm-ups, and athlete/equipment management

  • Act as a liaison between athletes, coaches, and event officials to support operations during events.

  • May have the ability to travel with the team for competitive events.

 

General Program Support

  • Attend team practices, competitions, and events, providing logistical and operational support.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of training spaces and equipment.

  • Participate in periodic performance reviews/debriefing with the coaching staff to assess contributions and gain feedback loops to better adjust training.

  • Demonstrate initiative by proposing innovative ideas or solutions to improve athlete performance or program operations.

Job Requirements

Experience in weight-lifting and/or movement programming 

Either 1 year of prior experience in one of the following environments: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Strength and Conditioning, Sport Performance, Athletic Training, Sport Medicine OR an accredited certification in Strength and Conditioning, Personal Training, or Athletic Coaching required
