Job Description

Cultured Kombucha Co. is seeking a Communications + PR Intern to join our growing consumer brand for approximately 10 hours per week at $20/hour.

This is a hands-on role for a strong writer and communicator interested in gaining real-world experience in public relations, brand communications, media relations, partnerships, and consumer marketing. The intern will work directly with our team to help tell Cultured’s story, build brand visibility, and identify opportunities to get the company, its products, and its founder in front of new audiences.

Responsibilities will include drafting a weekly customer newsletter and blog, collaborating with our social media team on weekly brand messaging, and supporting communications around new product launches, retail expansion, events, partnerships, and other company news.

The intern will also support Cultured’s PR and earned media efforts, including building and maintaining targeted media lists; researching journalists, publications, podcasts, and relevant media opportunities; drafting approximately two press releases or targeted media pitches per month; conducting media outreach; and managing appropriate follow-up.

Additional responsibilities include researching and pursuing brand and community partnerships with aligned businesses, events, nonprofits, wellness organizations, clubs, creators, and community groups. The intern will also help identify opportunities for founder and brand visibility, including podcasts, interviews, awards, speaking engagements, panels, entrepreneurial organizations, and relevant editorial features.

We’re looking for someone who is curious, resourceful, organized, and comfortable taking initiative. Strong writing skills are important, as is the ability to research independently, communicate professionally, manage follow-up, and take an idea from concept through execution.

Students studying communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, business, or a related field may be especially well suited, but we’re more interested in initiative, writing ability, creativity, and follow-through than a specific major.

This internship is designed to provide meaningful portfolio-building experience and direct exposure to the communications strategy of a growing Michigan consumer brand.

Schedule: Approximately 10 hours/week
Compensation: $20/hour
Location: Ann Arbor, MI / Remote

Educational Value

Educational Value of the Position

This internship provides hands-on experience in public relations, brand communications, media relations, partnership development, and consumer marketing within a growing consumer packaged goods company.

The intern will gain practical experience developing real brand communications, building and pitching media lists, creating press materials, identifying partnership opportunities, and supporting product launches and brand campaigns. They will also learn how communications, social media, sales, retail, and community engagement work together to build a consumer brand.

Unlike a primarily observational internship, this role gives the intern ownership of meaningful projects and the opportunity to build a portfolio of published writing, PR materials, campaigns, and communications work while receiving direct feedback and mentorship from the Cultured team.
