Job Description

Rogel Cancer Center Training, Education, and Career Development & Coordination (TrECC) Team

The Rogel Cancer Center’s TrECC Team is seeking a student employee to support trainee-focused programs, including One Day Closer, Healthcare Experience in Research & Oncology (HERO), and Pathways to Careers in Cancer Care & Research. The Student Program Assistant will provide administrative, communications, data-entry, and event-planning support. This position is primarily remote, with occasional on-site work required for events, seminars, and other program activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enter and update information in the Rogel Cancer Center trainee database while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Assist with creating, reviewing, and distributing newsletters, flyers, and other communication materials.
  • Support event and program planning, including scheduling, coordination, participant communication, material preparation, and logistical arrangements.
  • Provide on-site support for One Day Closer on Saturday, February 20, 2027.
  • Perform general administrative duties, including monitoring and responding to emails, preparing documents, organizing files, and maintaining records.
  • Collaborate with TrECC team members on projects, programs, and other initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current student in good academic standing.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Availability to work on-site at the North Campus Research Complex (NCRC) on Saturday, February 20, 2027.

Preferred:

  • Experience with data entry, administrative support, communications, or event planning.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva, or similar tools.
  • Interest in education, healthcare, cancer research, workforce development, or career programming.

Work Arrangements

This position is primarily remote, with occasional on-site work at the Rogel Cancer Center or other University of Michigan locations. On-site attendance may be required for designated events and seminars.

Anticipated hours: 5-10 hours per week dependant on both student availability and current work load
Employment period: September through May with the option to extend through the summer
Pay rate: $15/hour

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled at the University of Michigan and in good academic standing.
  • Have completed at least two terms of enrollment at U-M.
  • Have achieved junior or senior standing by the beginning of the fall 2026 term or be enrolled in a graduate degree program.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in campus or community organizations.
  • Enthusiasm for mentoring and supporting students.
  • Strong organizational, written, verbal, interpersonal, and technology skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn other relevant software.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Demonstrated responsibility, reliability, professionalism, and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, and balance academic and work commitments.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends, approximately four to five times per year.
Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
Hours 5.0 to 10.0 hours per week
