Fall 2026 Student Fellowship Program

Pay Rate: Undergraduate $17/hr, Master’s $20/hr, Doctoral/JD $23/hr

Job Duration: 8-12 hours/week for the fall 2026 semester, with the possibility of extending the fellowship

Who we’re looking for:

The Center for Academic Innovation’s Compliance Fellow will have the unique opportunity to perform critical work to support the University of Michigan’s efforts to expand its educational offerings to a global population of students and learners. We’re looking for a well-rounded, driven, and creative fellow with an interest in exploring and learning about legal issues relevant to online education. This includes areas like copyright, accessibility, privacy, and artificial intelligence. Ideal candidates demonstrate an interest in these issues and a passion for online education and how it impacts higher education. 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Review course materials for potential copyright issues and document copyright information for any third party content

  • Assist with the tool review process, which involves evaluating external service providers and their products, including applicable legal documentation 

  • Provide support for ongoing digital accessibility work to help ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and alignment with WCAG 2.1 AA 

  • Work closely with the CAI Compliance and Policy Team to support a variety of distance education compliance research and consulting efforts for the benefit of CAI projects and those of academic units across the University 

  • Produce memoranda, policy briefs, and other deliverables detailing themes and findings based on research

  • Regularly participate in Student Fellowship Program (SFP) events, professional development sessions, workshops, and community-building activities.

Job Requirements

Student Qualifications:

  • Current U-M student enrolled in a degree or online degree program at the Ann Arbor campus

  • A strong interest in higher education law, educational technologies, and online education

  • Outstanding attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work independently

  • Strong multi-tasking and time management skills
