Job Description

Are you a motivated student with strong organizational skills, excellent customer service, and a willingness to learn? We are hiring 3 students from any college or major at the University of Michigan interested in learning about fundraising and philanthropy, and supporting the work of major gift officers (MGOs) at the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) Advancement office.

 

The goal of LSA Advancement is to support, through fundraising, the educational priorities of the Dean and the College. Through direct appeals to alumni and leveraging meaningful opportunities with donors, LSA Advancement major gift officers (MGOs) work collaboratively with colleagues and strategically with donors to cultivate and steward gift opportunities for the College.

 

Work projects and assignments may include:

 

Assist MGOs with tasks and special projects as assigned; help with mailing letters, printing/scanning/copying documents; attend a weekly meeting with MGO supervisor.

  • Donor Data Input & Analysis
    Leverage internal database system to input donor interactions and inform targeted outreach strategies.

  • General Office Support

  • Personalized Donor Outreach Development
    Design and execute customized donor outreach, such as targeted discovery outreach, stewardship emails, or handwritten cards, a monthly newsletter, or event confirmations.

 
Educational Value

Students will gain insight into productive and strategic fundraising, collaborate with major gift officer on donor-facing projects, utilize strong writing and communication skills, and provide administrative support to a team of MGOs in the College of LSA at Michigan.

Job Experiences Provided: customer service; effective collaboration and communication; time management training; donor-centric fundraising; philanthropic solicitation strategy; informational interview opportunities; participation in team-building and organizational retreats when available. 

 
Job Requirements
