The Blavin Scholars Program is seeking student ambassadors to serve as representatives and advocates for the program. Blavin Scholar Ambassadors will help promote the program across the University of Michigan and beyond by sharing their experiences, supporting outreach efforts, and representing the Blavin community at key events.

This is a paid student leadership opportunity. Ambassadors will be compensated between $15 and $18 per hour, depending on program guidelines, experience, and responsibilities.

This position is ideal for Blavin Scholars who are interested in gaining leadership experience, strengthening their public speaking and presentation skills, engaging with the broader U-M community, and giving back to the Blavin Scholars Program.

Responsibilities

Blavin Scholar Ambassadors may be asked to:

• Serve as a positive representative and “face” of the Blavin Scholars Program.

• Participate in outreach and recruitment events for prospective students, campus partners, and community members.

• Assist with introductions, welcoming remarks, student panels, or reflections during annual Blavin Program events.

• Meet and engage with donors, supporters, alumni, university partners, and community members.

• Help promote the Blavin Scholars Program across U-M and beyond through events, presentations, panels, storytelling opportunities, and other engagement efforts.

• Share personal experiences, when comfortable, to help others better understand the value and impact of the Blavin Scholars Program.

• Support program staff with occasional special events, recruitment activities, or awareness-building efforts.

• Communicate professionally and reliably with Blavin staff regarding availability, scheduling, and event participation

Requirements

Students interested in serving as Blavin Scholar Ambassadors must:

• Be a current Blavin Scholar.

• Have been a scholar for at least one academic year. 

• Be in good academic standing.

• Attend coaching meetings regularly.

• Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and a willingness to represent the program positively.

• Have the capacity to participate in ambassador activities while maintaining academic responsibilities.

• Be comfortable speaking with students, donors, university staff, and community partners, or be willing to develop those skills.

• Complete an interview as part of the selection process.

• Receive a recommendation from their campus coach.

Time Commitment

Time commitments may vary depending on program needs and student availability. Ambassadors will be invited to participate in select events throughout the academic year and should only commit to opportunities that fit within their academic and personal schedules.

Selection Process

Students interested in the Blavin Scholar Ambassador position will be asked to complete an interview and obtain a recommendation from their campus coach. Selection will be based on academic standing, program engagement, reliability, communication skills, and the student’s ability to balance the role with their academic responsibilities.
