Starbucks Student Shift Lead

University of Michigan – Ross School of Business

Join Our Team

Are you an experienced barista or food service employee ready to take the next step into leadership? Looking for an on-campus leadership opportunity that can still work around your class schedule?

Join the Starbucks team at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business as a Student Shift Lead!

Located in the heart of Central Campus, our café serves thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors throughout the year. Our Student Shift Leads work alongside our management team to help guide daily operations, support and train Baristas, maintain Starbucks standards, and keep the café running smoothly during some of our busiest periods.

This position is a great opportunity for students with previous Starbucks, barista, or food service experience who are ready to develop their leadership skills while remaining actively involved in day-to-day café operations.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Convenient on-campus location in the Ross School of Business.
  • Flexible scheduling designed around your class schedule.
  • Paid Starbucks training and leadership development.
  • Employee food and beverage discounts.
  • Gain hands-on experience in leadership, training, problem-solving, and café operations.
  • Build supervisory experience while working for one of the world's most recognized brands.
  • Work alongside an energetic, supportive team in one of the busiest cafés on campus.
  • Opportunity to continue growing with our team throughout your college career and potentially into additional leadership roles.

What You'll Do

As a Student Shift Lead, you'll still work alongside our Baristas while taking on additional responsibility for supporting the team and daily café operations. Responsibilities may include:

  • Lead by example while providing friendly, genuine customer service.
  • Craft high-quality Starbucks beverages according to Starbucks recipes and brand standards.
  • Help train and guide Baristas in beverage preparation, customer service, cash handling, product knowledge, food safety, and operational procedures.
  • Support the management team in coordinating daily operations and completing assigned tasks.
  • Help organize and delegate work assignments when appropriate.
  • Provide direction and support to Baristas during high-volume rushes.
  • Accurately process card and electronic payments through our cashless point-of-sale system.
  • Prepare and serve food items while following all food safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and well-stocked café.
  • Restock products, ingredients, supplies, and retail merchandise.
  • Complete and help coordinate opening, closing, and daily cleaning responsibilities.
  • Maintain Starbucks beverage quality, customer service, cleanliness, and operational standards.
  • Follow and reinforce Starbucks dress code and appearance standards.
  • Follow all Aramark, Starbucks, and University food safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Communicate operational concerns, staffing needs, customer issues, and other important information to management.
  • Support teammates wherever needed to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

At Aramark, developing new skills and doing what it takes to get the job done make a positive impact on our employees and our customers. In order to meet our commitments, job duties may change or new ones may be assigned without formal notice.

Why Become a Student Shift Lead?

This isn't just another campus job. The Student Shift Lead position gives you an opportunity to build real supervisory and leadership experience while you're still in school.

You'll learn how to support and train employees, coordinate work during busy periods, solve problems in real time, maintain operational and food safety standards, and help lead a high-volume Starbucks operation.

It's especially well suited for students who already have café or food service experience and want to strengthen their résumé with hands-on leadership experience without committing to a traditional full-time supervisory schedule.

Education
