Job Description


The University of Michigan Museum of Art is seeking a creative and reliable student to help design and distribute promotional materials for UMMA events and public programs. 

Working collaboratively with UMMA’s Marketing and Public Experience teams, the Marketing and Graphic Design Assistant will translate event information into engaging, audience-friendly materials across digital and print formats. Projects may include instagram graphics, digital and print advertisements, flyers, programs, wayfinding signage, and other event-related materials. 

This position is ideal for a student with strong graphic design skills who is interested in art, museums, events, marketing, or public engagement. You’ll work within UMMA’s established brand guidelines and bring creativity and close attention to detail to each assignment.

The position offers a flexible schedule with the individual working about 12-15+ Hours / Week.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Design digital and printed promotional material for UMMA events and public programs

  • Create graphics sized and adapted for Instagram, Facebook, email, digital displays, and other platforms

  • Design flyers, advertisements, programs, wayfinding signage, and related event materials

  • Apply UMMA’s visual identity and brand guidelines consistently across projects

  • Prepare accurate, production-ready files for digital publishing and printing

  • Revise designs in response to feedback from project partners

  • Organize design files, templates, and final assets so they can be easily accessed and reused

  • Distribute promotional materials across campus and in the community

  • Help represent UMMA at occasional in-person events and tabling opportunities

  • Coordinate assignment and priorities with staff in both the Marketing and Public Experience teams

Job Requirements
  • Strong design skills, dependable, creative thinker, friendly and curious, good common sense

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable design software

  • A strong understanding of typography, composition, visual hierarchy, and use of color

  • Ability to set and manage priorities, handle multiple assignments and deadlines

  • Ability to work collaboratively and respond constructively to feedback

Hourly Rate $18.50/hour to $20.00/hour
