UX Designer Fellow
Fall 2026 Student Fellowship Program

Pay Rate: Undergraduate $17/hr, Master’s $20/hr, Doctoral $23/hr

Job Duration:10-15 hours/week for the fall 2026 semester, with the possibility of extending the fellowship

Who we’re looking for: 

We’re seeking an independent, detail-oriented, and reliable student to join the Center for Academic Innovation’s Edtech team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of immersive technology in academia, helping to shape innovative learning experiences for students and faculty alike.
 

As a member of the Edtech Team, you will be helping design UI/UX for innovative educational experience (mostly focusing on AI and XR). In the UI/UX role, you will be responsible for researching and designing the interactions for these experiences.

 

What You’ll Do: 

As a UX Fellow, you’ll have the opportunity to:

 

  • Conduct user research and interviews
  • Create UI designs and user flows 
  • Collaborate with other members of the Edtech team 
  • Create user flows, and interactive prototypes for AI- and XR-enabled learning experiences and Atlas.
  • Regularly participate in Student Fellowship Program (SFP) events, professional development sessions, workshops, and community-building activities.

The Experience and Skills You’ll Gain: 

  • Hands-on experience designing user experiences for AI- and XR-powered educational applications.
  • Opportunity to apply user-centered design methods, including user research, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing, and iterative design.
  • Experience collaborating with software engineers, learning experience designers, researchers, and faculty in a multidisciplinary product development environment.
  • Exposure to the end-to-end product design process, from concept ideation and user discovery through implementation and evaluation.
  • Experience designing accessible solutions that improve teaching and learning for diverse learners at the University of Michigan.
Job Requirements

Student Qualifications:

  • Current U-M student enrolled in a degree or online degree program at the Ann Arbor campus
  • Interest in AI, virtual, augmented, and mixed reality
  • Experience in human-computer interactions, user experience design, or related fields
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating concept ideation and design
  • Willingness to take on unfamiliar, complex tasks
  • Familiarity with drafting documentation and iterative development
  • Working well independently in a multicultural and collaborative environment
  • Strong attention to detail
Hourly Rate $17.00/hour to $23.00/hour
Hours 10.0 to 15.5 hours per week
Time Frame Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer
Start Date Monday, September 21, 2026
End Date At the end of the fall term, with possibility of a fellowship extension
