M-Engin Communications and Engagement Student Assistant

 

Position Summary

The Engineering Center for Academic Success (ECAS) in the College of Engineering is seeking a student worker to support communications, alumni engagement, mentoring, and online outreach initiatives for the M-Engin Academy

The primary focus will be helping develop and launch a LinkedIn community for alumni and current students who participated in the M-Engin Program. The student will collaborate with department staff and an M-Engin alum to strategically build the LinkedIn group, prepare outreach materials, and support a phased launch to a curated group of alumni.

The student will also assist ECAS staff with strengthening the M-Engin Academy’s social media presence, updating program webpages and supporting mentoring initiatives.

The overall goal of this effort is to strengthen communication and community among M-Engin students and support valuable professional development opportunities including career advice, mentoring, career exploration, professional networking and student engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in building out a LinkedIn page for alumni and current student participants of the M-Engin Academy Program

  • Work with department staff and an alum collaborator to develop the structure, content and posting strategy for the LinkedIn community

  • Help identify ways the LinkedIn community can support mentoring, networking and career exploration

  • Draft correspondence to invite selected alumni to join the LinkedIn community.

  • Assist with the developing and maintaining a social media presence for the M-Engin Academy

  • Support the review and revision of M-Engin Academy webpages to make content more visually engaging, accessible and student-centered

  • Support the development of mentoring initiatives.

  • Attend periodic check-in meetings with department staff and the alumni collaborator.

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Current University of Michigan student in good academic standing.

  • Previous or current participation in the M-Engin Academy

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage information in an organized manner.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively

  • Familiarity with LinkedIn and social media platforms, or willingness to learn relevant best practices 

Hourly Rate $18.00/hour
Hours 5.0 to 10.0 hours per week
Time Frame Fall Only
Start Date Monday, September 7, 2026
End Date This is a temporary, one-semester student appointment with the potential for renewal for the following semester, subject to department needs
