Job Description

The student will provide support for laboratory- and field-based projects. Examples of the activities include analysis of soil samples for Blastomyces DNA, submitting samples for sanger sequencing, and analyzing bat tissues for Histoplasma DNA. This individual may also assist in collection of wildlife specimens for H5N1 testing.

Educational Value

Student will gain experience performing conventional and quantitative PCR in a laboratory setting. Student will gain experience conducting Sanger sequencing and phylogenetic analyses. Student will have the opportunity to present work in written form via manuscripts and in oral form at group meetings. Student may have the opportunity to present at conferences or share findings with local health departments.

Job Requirements

Bachelors degree in biology, ecology, health, or a related field. Ability to perform basic laboratory procedures (e.g., maintain sterile technique, pipette, follow a laboratory protocol)
