Job Summary

The Liberty Research Annex has been remodeled offering an emerging space for exhibitions, events, conversations, and experimentation at Taubman College. The academic initiatives team is seeking two student research assistants to help activate the gallery during its first year of programming. 

 

Reporting to Anya Sirota and working as a small team with Academic Initiatives and Facilities, you will help steward the Annex by keeping the gallery accessible to the public, supporting exhibitions and events, assisting with communications and installations, and helping us establish how the space can best operate over time. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Staff regular public gallery hours, currently anticipated as Fridays, 6:00-9:00 p.m. or Saturdays, 1:00-4:00 p.m.

  • Welcome visitors and serve as knowledgeable points of contact for exhibitions on view 

  • Staff evening and weekend events, as needed, throughout the academic year

  • Assist with exhibition openings, lectures, conversations, and other Annex events 

  • Support exhibition and event communications

  • Assist with installation, deinstallation, and exhibition preparation

  • Help coordinate smaller student and junior faculty exhibitions in the Annex event/mezzanine space

  • Work with faculty, exhibitors, and fabricators on modest scenographic installations and display needs

  • Document gallery activity and help develop simple protocols for the future stewardship of the Annex

  • Assist in setting up furniture and A/V equipment

Additional Information 

? Appointment Period: Fall 2026 semester and/or Winter 2027 semester

? Estimated Effort: 4-10 hours a week 

? Compensation: $20/hr

Selection Process 

Every effort will be made to have a hiring decision by the end of the day on September 15, 2026. The starting date is September 18, 2026.

Job Requirements
  • Open to students enrolled in any academic program. 

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends 

  • Comfortable supporting a range of exhibition-related activities, including installation, communication, hosting, and public engagement. 

  • Reliable, organized, and able to take initiative in a collaborative environment.
