The student research assistant will support a CDC-funded project focused on implementing SafERteens, a youth violence-prevention program. Working collaboratively with the research team, the student will help manage and prepare emergency department data for analysis.

Key Responsibilities

· Clean and abstract a large dataset of community surveillance data from the ED using Excel.

· Review and interpret emergency-department records, including triage notes and diagnosis codes.

· Follow established protocols to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and confidentiality.

· Collaborate with analysts and other members of the research team.

· Support additional research and administrative activities as needed.

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

- Proficiency in Excel and the ability to follow detailed data-cleaning and abstraction protocols.

- Ability to interpret and abstract information from clinical documentation.

- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a research team.

- Must complete PEERRS Human Subjects Research Protections training and follow Good Clinical Practice and all applicable data-privacy requirements.

- Previous human-subjects research experience is preferred.

- Familiarity with ICD diagnosis codes and emergency-department triage notes is a plus but is not required.

- Interest in emergency medicine, clinical research, youth violence prevention, or firearm-injury prevention in healthcare and community settings is preferred.
