Summary:
The Office of the Vice Provost for Sustainability and Climate Action at the University of Michigan invites applications for a Sustainability and Climate Action (SCA) Intern to support the Office. The role is central to our commitment to supporting university efforts in sustainability and climate action across research, curriculum, and community engagement.

Impact and Evaluation:
The SCA Intern’s contributions are expected to provide critical support to  the Office of the Vice Provost for Sustainability and Climate Action.  They will support work towards just transition, and help to facilitate transformative research, teaching, and community-facing partnerships across U-M campuses

The SCA Intern’s work will be shared with SEAS, Graham Institute for Sustainability, MBGNA, and other U-M partners, enhancing the broader community's efforts. Additional media production skills will help you present deliverables creatively.

 

Job Requirements
Responsibilites
The Intern may work in some or all of the following areas:
  • Curriculum: Support project management and campus-wide coordination activities to advance sustainability and climate action curricular activities within the OVPSCA.
  • Research: Support coordination of campus-wide research activities, related meetings, and interdisciplinary convenings to advance OVPSCA mission.
    • Data Analysis and Visualization: Support the collection, organization, analysis, mapping, and visualization of sustainability and climate-related data using appropriate statistical, geospatial, spreadsheet, or programming tools.
  • Community Engagement: Support community outreach and engagement activities, including event planning and production.
  • Student Ambassador: Serve as key liaison between OVPSCA and Student Life Sustainability and student organizations focused on sustainability, environmental justice, and climate action.
  • Research: Conduct miscellaneous research to support overall advancement of OVPSCA portfolio.
  • Strategy Implementation: Support execution of OVPSCA strategy.
  • Database Management: Build and maintain a database of relevant contacts, initiatives, and interest groups to support overall OVPSCA activities.
Qualifications:
  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program at the University of Michigan, maintaining good academic standing.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to environmental sustainability principles. Familiarity and experience with climate action through a lens of climate and environmental justice.
  • Proficiency in research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Capability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, coupled with solid organizational abilities.
Preferred Skills
Some projects will require: 
  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods (data analysis, data visualization, etc.)
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets and programming tools (R, Google Colab, Python)
  • Experience with geospatial analysis (GIS)
Hourly Rate $17.00/hour
