Position Overview
The Child and Adolescent Data Lab in the School of Social Work is seeking a Master of Social Work (MSW) student to serve as a Research Assistant supporting an evaluation of the Family Spirit program offered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). This is a part-time, hourly position, and the student will work as part of the Data Lab's ongoing research and evaluation efforts. About the Family Spirit Program
Family Spirit is an evidence-based, culturally tailored home visiting program designed to support Native American families during pregnancy and early childhood. Developed by the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health in partnership with tribal communities, the program is delivered by Native American paraprofessionals who provide in-home parent training and support from pregnancy through age three. Family Spirit promotes healthy child development, strengthens parenting knowledge and skills, and serves as an Indigenous solution to improving maternal and child health and well-being. In Michigan, Family Spirit is one of the evidence-based home visiting models supported by MDHHS and is implemented in partnership with tribal communities across the state. Responsibilities - Assist with evaluation activities for the Family Spirit program, including data collection, data management, and analysis support.
- Support literature reviews and background research related to home visiting, child welfare, and culturally grounded family programs.
- Assist with preparation of reports, presentations, and other project materials.
- Participate in project meetings with the Child and Adolescent Data Lab team.
- Perform other research support tasks as assigned.
