The University of Michigan Center of Innovation (UMCI) in Detroit is seeking a reliable, organized, and service-oriented Program Operations Assistant to support the delivery of workforce development and professional education programs. This position will assist with the day-to-day operations of UMCI programs, with a particular focus on supporting in-person programming on Saturdays. The Program Operations Assistant will help create a welcoming, organized, and positive experience for learners, faculty, facilitators, and program partners. Responsibilities include preparing classrooms and event spaces, setting up and cleaning up food and catering, taking and tracking attendance, assisting with learner check-in and registration, distributing program materials, and ensuring classrooms have the supplies and resources needed for each session. The position will serve as an on-site resource in Detroit for faculty and learners, helping address questions and needs throughout the program and escalating issues to the Program Manager when appropriate. The Program Operations Assistant will communicate regularly with the Program Manager regarding program logistics, attendance, learner needs, supplies, facilities, and any issues that arise during programming. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with event setup and breakdown, organizing materials and supplies, supporting special events, maintaining program spaces, and completing other duties necessary to successfully operate UMCI programs in Detroit.

This position provides an opportunity to develop valuable professional skills in program operations, event management, customer service, communication, and higher education. The Program Operations Assistant will gain hands-on experience supporting workforce development and professional education programs and working directly with faculty, learners, and program staff. The position will strengthen skills in organization, problem solving, teamwork, attention to detail, and managing multiple priorities in a live program environment. The role also provides exposure to the operations of the University of Michigan Center of Innovation and the delivery of educational programming in Detroit.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong customer-service orientation. Ability to work independently while also communicating effectively with the Program Manager and program team. Must be dependable, punctual, and comfortable taking initiative to identify and address operational needs. Must be comfortable interacting with faculty, staff, learners, community partners, and members of a community with varying backgrounds. Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email, and other common technology platforms preferred. Ability to assist with event setup, moving supplies and materials, and setting up and cleaning up catering. Attendance and punctuality are critical. Must have consistent availability on Saturdays and be available for occasional evenings or other special events as program needs require. This person must be willing to travel to Detroit for events.
