Job Description

This position supports Michigan Engineering’s web and course content accessibility efforts by testing, analyzing, and remediating academic, administrative, course, and research websites and files to ensure they meet campus requirements. Students will learn and apply best practices for digital accessibility and become proficient with technologies that help make digital content accessible. Students will work independently and collaboratively to identify and address accessibility issues in a variety of online technologies, such as WordPress websites, custom web applications, Canvas courses, and/or supplemental documentation. They will also analyze data from their testing and remediation efforts to provide insights on common issues and provide estimates for the time required to bring digital platforms up to accessibility standards. Work involving undergraduate course content may be limited to graduate students due to access requirements. This position supports courses in the Biomedical Engineering department.

 

Educational Value

This position offers students hands-on experience in digital accessibility, enhancing their technical skills and equipping them with the expertise needed for creating inclusive digital environments. Students will develop proficiency with accessibility tools, strengthen their problem-solving abilities, and gain experience in data analysis and report generation. This role prepares students for careers in web development, digital accessibility evaluation, educational technology, user experience design, and compliance roles.

Job Requirements

Have basic knowledge of accessibility standards or a willingness to learn.
Are tech-savvy and quick to learn new technologies.
Are adept at analyzing workloads and data to develop detailed reports.
Must be able to complete 4 hours of asynchronous online training.
Must be able to work independently and collaboratively.
Completion of the full calculus sequence and familiarity with electronic circuits is desired.

Hourly Rate $16.00/hour
