Graduate Student Research Assistant | University of Michigan We are seeking a graduate student research assistant to support a research project on how organizations work to build peace amid armed conflict. The project centers on a large systematic review of academic literature spanning organization and management studies, social movement research, and peace and conflict studies, examining how different actors organize across the stages of conflict from prevention through transformation. About the Project The research maps the strategies, structures, and relational work that organizations use to advance peace, and develops new theory on the distinctive organizational challenges of operating across conflict lines. Research outputs include academic articles targeting leading management journals and practitioner briefs disseminated to peacebuilding organizations working in active conflict contexts. What We're Looking For The strongest candidate is a careful, systematic reader who can apply a coding framework consistently across a large body of material. This reliability matters more than any single disciplinary background. We are especially interested in candidates with: - An interest in or background in peace and conflict studies, international affairs, or the study of organizations in conflict settings
- Experience with qualitative research methods, particularly systematic coding, content analysis, or literature review
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently and consistently over an extended period
- Graduate standing at the University of Michigan (PhD students and ambitious master's students both encouraged to apply)
Relevant backgrounds may come from political science, public policy, sociology, organizational studies, international and area studies, anthropology, or related fields. We welcome applicants from across these areas. How To Apply Please send a brief statement of interest describing your background and relevant experience, along with a CV and the names and contact information for two to three references, to Ambreen Ben-Shmuel (ambreen@umich.edu) and CC Charlene Zietsma (czietsma@umich.edu).
