Pay Rate: Undergraduate $17/hr | Master’s $20/hr | Doctoral $23/hr

Job Duration: 
10-15 hours/week for the Fall 2026 semester, with the possibility of extending the fellowship to the Winter 2027 semester

Do you enjoy discovering the story behind an experience? Maybe you’re someone who wants to know not only what happened, but why it happened and what we should do next.

The Center for Academic Innovation (CAI) is looking for a Student Experience & Program Assessment Fellow to better understand students' and supervisors' experiences in our Student Fellowship Program (SFP). In this role, you’ll use feedback, program data, and research to uncover what’s working, identify opportunities for improvement, and help shape the future of student programming at CAI. You do not need to be an assessment expert, but you should bring a foundational understanding of data, research, or assessment and, most importantly, curiosity and a desire to learn. 

You’ll work with the Associate Director to establish goals and priorities for your first semester, creating a plan that supports your learning, development, and success in the role.

What You’ll Do: 

• Support the design, administration, and evaluation of assessments that help us understand the student and supervisor experience, including student and supervisor surveys and other emerging assessment needs.
• Support the Associate Director in designing a continuous evaluation framework for SFP, turning it into a polished and usable resource.
• Support the assessment of the NACE Career Competencies throughout the fellowship experience to strengthen student learning.
• Analyze student, supervisor, and alumni feedback and program information to identify themes, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
• Review SFP recruitment and application data and trends across recruitment cycles.
• Research and benchmark experiential learning, fellowship, and student employment programs at U-M and peer institutions.
• Prepare data findings and recommendations for CAI stakeholders, with opportunities to present to staff and senior leaders.
• Plan and execute SFP events or student engagement activities, as assigned.
• Provide occasional support for SFP recruitment, hiring, and onboarding activities as program needs evolve.

Student Qualifications:

• Current U-M junior, senior, master’s, or doctoral student enrolled in an Ann Arbor degree or online degree program.
• Have an interest in student affairs, higher education, program evaluation, assessment, research, student success, or a related area.
• Demonstrate a basic familiarity with using quantitative and qualitative information to understand experiences, identify patterns, or answer questions.
• Demonstrate strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Be comfortable engaging with students, staff, supervisors, and organizational leaders.
• Demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to organize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Be willing to learn new assessment methods, technologies, and approaches.
• Be able to work both independently and collaboratively and take increasing ownership of projects over time.
• Be comfortable navigating ambiguity, trying new approaches, and learning through new experiences.
