Job Description

The Ginsberg Center is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented graduate student to assist with research and scholarly writing projects, in support of the Ginsberg team. The Center publishes the Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning, one of the premier journals in the field of community-engaged scholarship. We are committed to translating community-engaged work into rigorous and accessible scholarship for both academic and broader audiences 

 

Job tasks include synthesizing and drafting literature reviews, drafting and editing content for articles and presentations in collaboration with Ginsberg staff, creating and/or contributing to visuals for presentations, and other duties as assigned. This position will include the opportunity to contribute to articles and book chapters that will be submitted for publication. This position has the possibility of renewal for 2027-28 academic year.

 

Specific areas of work and responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research in support of resource and curriculum development

  • Conduct outreach to expand involvement of additional graduate students in community-engaged scholarship programs

  • Synthesize relevant scholarly literature

  • Contribute to arguments and conceptual framing for articles and chapters

  • Help ensure coherence and consistency in collaborative writing projects

 
Educational Value

??Students will be able to expand their skills in a number of areas: organization, written communication, project management, and conducting and translating research for different audiences while learning about community-engaged scholarship and university-community partnerships.

 
Job Requirements
  • U-M doctoral student, from any academic discipline

  • Strong organization and time-management skills, including the ability to: accomplish multiple tasks autonomously, complete tasks by deadline, develop clear project plans and timelines, and anticipate potential issues. 

  • Ability to work in a team-based setting and with diverse groups

  • Familiarity with and/or interest in community-engaged research or practice

  • Demonstrated experience with written communication for research and professional reports, such as literature reviews, benchmarking, or scholarly writing 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including: a comfort in sharing ideas with others, asking questions, seeking feedback, and proactively communicating with supervisors and professional staff
