Job Description

Responsibilities

The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), the world's largest archive of social science data, is accepting applications for a Research Assistant to support the Social Media Archive (SOMAR) in tasks pertaining to User Support, Restricted Data Access Application Management, and Other Project Support as needed.

Position responsibilities include:

User (Researcher) Support

Research Assistant will monitor the SOMAR user support queue and address researchers’ questions related to applying for restricted data and accessing restricted data. For questions related to SOMAR’s other services, Research Assistant will assign tickets to the appropriate staff member.

Restricted Data Access Application Management

Research Assistant will review and process applications for restricted-use data disseminated by SOMAR and answer user support inquiries regarding the application process and use of restricted data. Research Assistant will also track, monitor, and report on all active data use agreements and help users modify or terminate agreements as needed.

Other Project Support

Research Assistant will assist Project Managers with various project management tasks as time allows. These tasks may include compiling call summary notes; tracking application, VDE, and user support activities; and other special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• User support or customer service experience

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with or general knowledge of statistical processing software such as R and Python
• 1+ years of related experience
• Experience with social science data or sensitive research data
• Experience working with academic or research faculty
• Experience with Jira or other project management tools

Additional Information

This is a term-limited position through the Fall 2026 semester, with possible extension through the Winter 2027 semester, pending Archive’s 2027 activities. The Research Assistant is expected to work flexible hours, between 10 and 12 hours a week. The position can be remote or hybrid.

Reporting

Research Assistant will report to a Project Manager on the SOMAR project.

Hourly Rate $25.00/hour
