Job Description

Job Summary

The University Record is the official source for employee news at the University of Michigan and is part of the U-M Office of the Vice President for Communications. It includes a website updated daily, a daily email newsletter, and a weekly print edition.

The University Record seeks a student intern to be an active part of this storytelling process.

News Production & Digital Design
 
This role will focus on news production and building out content on our website's content management system.
Our successful applicant will assist in several functions:
  • Build and format stories online using a content management system
  • Assist in compiling and formatting the Record's email newsletter
  • Help assemble items such as event calendars
  • Other news production tasks related to design
Experience with WordPress and InDesign is a plus.
 
Additional Information
 
An ideal candidate would want to gain experience working alongside professional writers, with the desire to write content.
 
This position is for 10 to 15 hours per week. The schedule is subject to the successful applicant's availability with the preference that they work up to six hours from Monday through Wednesday of each week. The position is hybrid, with a few hours each week at the Record offices in the Ruthven Building on Central Campus, 1109 Geddes Ave.
 

 

Educational Value

Students will gain hands-on experience in digital news production, web content management, newsletter creation, and professional communications while developing their writing, design, and attention-to-detail skills.

Job Requirements
The successful applicant should have:
  1. A basic familiarity with Google and Microsoft suites of software
  2. Some experience with building web pages using a content management system
  3. Strong attention to detail
  4. An eagerness to learn
Hourly Rate $17.50/hour
