Job Description

Student Facilities Assistant

The School of Kinesiology is seeking dependable, service-oriented students to support the Facilities and Operations team with evening classroom reservation support, events, and general building operations. This position is ideal for students who are organized, proactive, and comfortable assisting a variety of campus partners and guests.

Evening shifts are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Event shifts vary and may be daytime or evening.

Responsibilities

Evening Classroom and Building Support

  • Conduct routine checks of classrooms and other reserved meeting spaces.
  • Confirm that rooms are open, accessible, and ready for scheduled groups.
  • Check in with student organizations and other groups using reserved spaces.
  • Provide courteous reminders as reservation end times approach.
  • Answer general questions about building use and connect groups with the appropriate resources for reservations or other support needs.
  • Document no-shows, scheduling discrepancies, room-use concerns, and other relevant information on reservation tracking sheets.
  • Help promote responsible use of classrooms and shared spaces.
  • Escalate facility, safety, or access concerns according to established procedures.

Event Support

  • Assist with room setup and reset, including arranging tables, chairs, signage, and other event materials.
  • Retrieve facilities equipment from storage for event hosts
  • Provide on-site support and complete time-sensitive tasks for event coordinators.
  • Help ensure event spaces are clean, organized, and ready for use.

Supervision 

This position works as part of the School of Kinesiology Facilities and Operations team. The student assistant will collaborate most closely with the Evening Facilities Assistant and the Associate Director for Operations and Emergency Planning. Training and guidance will be provided.

Educational Value

Students will gain experience working in an office and with a variety of campus partners and guests.

Qualifications

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable interacting professionally with students, faculty, staff and guests.  
  • Able to follow procedures, maintain accurate records, and recognize when an issue should be escalated.
  • Willing and able to assist with light physical tasks associated with event setup and breakdown.
Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
Hours 10.0 to 15.0 hours per week
