Job Description

Michigan Target Research and Fabrication (MiTRF) in the department of Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences is seeking a student photographer to creatively document our experimental components for our website, social media, and research posters.

The role requires handling millimeter-scale delicate components and staging them for photos, often next to props that showcase their size.

Other responsibilities may include photo editing, assisting with updating our website and social media, and preparing/submitting photos for print.

Educational Value
  • The student will gain familiarity with the laboratory and experimental components
  • The student's photos will be used in presentations at scientific conferences, and the student may participate in conferences to present their work.
  • The student may learn more about the experiments in order to assist with writing captions, creating videos, infographics, etc.
  • The student may learn to operate a digital microscope to take photos.
Job Requirements

Required skills:

  • Must be able to independently operate a DSLR camera and macro lens (supplied by the lab) without training.
  • Must be able to handle delicate objects (student will be trained in handling techniques).

Additional desired skills: 

  • Wordpress website editing
  • Social media content creation
  • Interest/experience in science communication
  • Experience with creative macrophotography/photographing very small objects (example: jewelry)

This position is open to all undergraduate majors.

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
