Job Description

Research assistant in a gastrointestinal stem cell laboratory. The primary duty is genotyping genetically engineered mice by polymerase chain reaction. In addition, general laboratory assistance would include preparing solutions, autoclaving supplies, and washing glassware. Some opportunities for varied activities to support researchers in the laboratory, including tissue histology and microscopy.

Educational Value

Understanding of gastrointestinal stem cell biology using genetically-engineered mice and cell culture approaches. Genotyping techniques [preparation of genomic DNA, polymerase chain reaction, and gel electrophoresis]. Excel spread sheet use. Various laboratory techniques to make scientific solutions and support research. Histological analysis of mouse tissue sections.

Job Requirements

Prior laboratory experience not necessary.
