University Unions is an organizational unit within Student Life which offers services, programs, spaces and student involvement opportunities within the Michigan League, Michigan Union and Pierpont Commons Palmer Commons serves the University of Michigan community by providing conference and event spaces and services, dining facilities and departmental office spaces as provisioned by the Office of the Provost, managed in accordance with University Unions guidelines. We strive to create an inclusive environment incorporating sustainable efforts where students, faculty, staff and guests come together as a community on common ground. Deliver exemplary customer service, staff support and facility management for users of Palmer Commons. - Serving as Manager on Duty performing the following duties:
- Serve as a key representative of Palmer Commons to all facility users ensuring customer satisfaction
- Ensure the safety and security of the faciltiy, employees, and facilty users
- Ensure that customer needs are met, employees are fulfilling their duties and systems are operating smoothly
- Coordination of customer events and activities. Greet event contact and ensure they have what is needed
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems with systems, employees, and guest
- Support of Information Desk and media/room set-up staffs
- Communicate and record interactions with Plant Maintanence, Building Services (Custodial), and Department of Public Safety
- Actively participate in self-assessment to determine Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Deliver exemplary customer service to all guests of University Unions through a variety of forms of interaction
- Cultivate an accessible, safe, and inclusive environment for all students, visitors, and guests within University Unions facilities, services, and programs
- Open and close the facility/office
- Monitor safety and security of the facility by walking rounds, responding to issues, and completing reports
- Enact emergency procedures when necessary (such as building evacuations or handling medical emergencies)
- Be knowledgeable of the building layout for each building you work in
- Know events that are happening in the facility during your shift
