Job Description

The Program on Intergroup Relations (IGR) is a social justice education program that blends theory and experiential learning to facilitate students’ learning around social group identity, social inequality, and intergroup relations. The IGR student recruitment team (known as IGR Friends) focuses on promoting IGR curricular and co-curricular offerings through genuine relationship building, tabling at university-wide recruitment initiatives, attending IGR events, sharing their IGR experience with prospective students, and flyering.


 

IGR Friends:
 

  1. Attend training before engaging in campus recruitment events and initiatives on behalf of IGR

  2. Commit to weekly team meetings

  3. Support IGR strategies to increase enrollment in courses and participation in co-curricular activities

  4. Have experiential knowledge of opportunities IGR offers to students (e.g., taking an IGR class, participating in CommonGround, facilitating with Summer Youth Dialogues etc.)

 
Responsibilities:

Relationship building (50%)

  • Create trust and collaborate with IGR Friends team to increase IGR visibility on campus

  • Build relationships with student peers across campus and help them become aware of the ways IGR participation will complement their personal and professional journeys 

  • Engage peers in informal conversation and conduct presentations to promote IGR to various audiences on campus


 

Tabling and large scale events (25%)

  • Represent IGR at large scale tabling and recruiting events, including but not limited to: Festifall, Winterfest, Beyond the Diag Block Party, Pride Outside, Transfer Student Resource Fair, Transfer Student Visit Days Mix & Mingle, Undergrad Orientation Visit Days, La Casa Unete, LSA Major/Minor Expo

  • Identifying and communicating new recruitment or tabling opportunities for IGR to staff

  • Tabling on north and central campus (e.g., Trotter Multicultural Center, Duderstadt Connector)


 

IGR in-house events (10%)

  • Connect with students who attend IGR Student Engagement Team (SET) events and help them become aware of different ways to remain involved with IGR


 

IGR Friends community administration (10%)

  • Attend and prepare for weekly team meetings with other IGR Friends and staff recruitment leads/team.

  • Send follow up emails to those who sign up for more information at tabling events

  • Document recruitment best practices via excel, word documents, and forms

  • Support IGR staff with revamping and keeping the recruitment timeline updated

  • Provide recruitment feedback to strengthen IGR recruitment practices

  • Post IGR recruiting flyers on campus public posting boards

Other IGR Friends tasks (5%)

  • Collaborating with the Student Experience Team on communications plans, working collectively with the student engagement program assistant, as well as brainstorming and implementing program promotional strategies

  • Create and build relationships with IGR students during programming events

  • Perform administrative tasks and other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Required qualifications

  • Commit to a regular 5-8 hr/week work schedule

  • Prior engagement in IGR curricular and/or co-curricular offerings (courses, dialogues, Summer Youth Dialogues, CommonGround workshops, Recruitment Team etc.).

  • Commitment to the pursuit of social justice through education consistent with the IGR mission.

  • Passion for growing and building the IGR community.

  • Desire to develop strong relationships with peers, raise awareness about opportunities in IGR, and foster a strong sense of belonging so they are active members of the IGR community.

  • Creativity and ability to innovate.

  • Strong organizational, written, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

  • Exceptional time management skills.

  • Self-motivated and able to work in a collaborative environment.

  • Use academic and personal networks to disseminate IGR information and grow the IGR community.

Desired qualifications

  • Facilitation experience (programs, dialogues, etc.).

  • Willingness to think creatively about potential recruitment opportunities for IGR Friends to share about IGR’s curricular and co-curricular opportunities

  • Involvement on campus
