Job Description

This position is situated in the Global Engagement and Education Abroad (GEEA) team at the International Center. The GEEA team promotes and facilitates the International Center's signature programming, develops relationships with campus partners, and serves as the programmatic function of the International Center.  Responsibilities for this position:

  • Advise students on study, work, and travel abroad opportunities.

  • Assist in managing our Global Wolverines program (https://internationalcenter.umich.edu/abroad/ic-global-wolverines), including program development in the Fall term and program implementation in the Winter term.

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of events that 1) help international students, scholars, and their families have successful academic and social transitions to the U.S.; 2) encourage the international community to share their own culture and learn about U.S. culture; and 3) promote active engagement between the U.S. and international communities.

  • Plan and lead trips to introduce the international community to the culture of the U.S. and the surrounding regional area. No driving is needed as transportation is via chartered bus.

  • Research and update information for the International Center's website.

  • Some administrative/clerical tasks such as photocopying, organizing resource materials, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • Must have work-study 

  • Must be a graduate student

  • Must have in-person or remote education abroad experience (e.g. studying, interning, volunteering, etc.)

  • Must be reliable, flexible, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as an effective member of a team

  • Must be detail-oriented

  • Experience with and/or an interest in interacting with international students, scholars, and their families

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills

  • Experience speaking to groups (10-50 people)

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Good research and computer skills

  • Experience with event planning is a plus but is not required

  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends

Educational Value
