Job Description: The Museum of Art (UMMA) is looking for an undergraduate or graduate student to serve as a Study Room Art Handler to support teaching and learning with the Museum’s collection. The Art Handler works directly with the Public Experience and Learning (PEL) department's University Learning and Programs Specialist to support the goals of PEL programming, including the use of the Paper and Object Study Rooms for visiting classes, scholars and museum curators. This employment opportunity is perfect for students interested in experience with museum collections management, education, and curatorial activities. Prior museum experience is not expected or required, but we would love it if you have an interest in arts and culture. This position lives within the Collections and Registration Department, but you will regularly report to and partner with the University Learning and Programs Manager from PEL. This position requires 15-20 hours of work per week and the student must be enrolled for the fall ‘25 and winter ‘26 semester. This is an 8-12 month (renewable) employment opportunity. We’re flexible on when this role will begin, but we’re hopeful you can start the first week of August 2025. The availability to train and begin the job earlier in the summer is a major plus. Duties and Responsibilities Learn appropriate art-handling techniques (Training is provided) Transport objects in the Museum from storage locations to study areas and back again. Maintain the safety and security of Museum collection obiects when removed from storage. Oversee and assist faculty, students and researchers in the study rooms during visits, including the articulation and upholding of Study Room usage rules. Assess and provide Study Room visitor usage statistics. Track Locations of collection obiects. Check out and monitor Registration object files for research requests, while preserving confidentiality of sensitive records.
