Job Description

Staff the Science Learning Center (SLC) Main Branch (1720 Chem) and/or SLC Satellite (2165 USB) information desks answering questions and replying to patron
requests in a courteous
customer-focused, and inclusive manner. As the first point of contact at the SLC, you will be guiding/directing all visitors within the center. Process library and course materials including taking in new items and distributing materials upon request. Assisting patrons with borrowing library resources. Help users with computers, printers, and copiers. Provide general office assistance to study group facilitators/Help Room staff including computer, printer, copier assistance, and exam review room scheduling. Contribute to a positive team dynamic and environment. Office assistants will also provide assistance to full-time SLC administrative staff. Tasks will include data entry into spreadsheets, creating MS Word documents, photocopying, data reporting, and poster creation. Complete other assigned tasks as necessary. Basic knowledge of both PC’s and Macs, as well as general software applications is preferred.

Job Requirements

This is a work-study-only position throughout the fall and winter terms. First and second year undergraduate work-study candidates are preferred for this position.

The candidate must be eligible and available to work the 2022-2023 academic year. The candidate should have some availability during our hours of operation throughout the semester including an occasional weekend shift. The SLC Main location (1720 Chem) is open Monday-Thursday 9 AM-10 PM, Friday 9 AM-6 PM, Saturday 12-6 PM including home football game days, and Sunday 12-10 PM. The SLC Satellite location (2165 USB) is open Monday-Thursday 9 AM-10 PM, Friday 9 AM-4 PM, Saturday closed, and Sunday 12-10 PM.

The candidate must have basic computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Google docs, Google forms, and Canvas, as well as basic computer literacy. *The candidate could also have knowledge of AppsAnywhere, Mprint, & Virtual Sites or possess a willingness to learn.

Educational Value

This position offers hands-on experience in a professional setting. Students will learn basic job skills and gain experience working in a busy public study space and computing lab. In addition, students will receive life skills through training in diversity, equity, and inclusion, adding an excellent addition to their resume while working a consistent schedule with the potential to pick up additional sub shifts throughout the term.
