Job Description

The Science Learning Center is seeking a dedicated and responsible Office Assistant to join our team. As an Office Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing support and assistance to both visitors and staff.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Staffing the information desks at the SLC Main Branch and/or SLC Satellite.
  • Greeting visitors, answering questions, and responding to patron requests in a courteous, customer-focused, and inclusive manner.
  • Serving as the first point of contact to greet, guide, and direct all visitors within the center.
  • Processing library and course materials, including taking in new items and distributing materials upon request.
  • Assisting patrons with borrowing library resources.
  • Helping users with computers, printers, and copiers.
  • Providing general office assistance to Study Group Program and Tutoring Program staff, including support with computers, printers, copiers, and exam review room scheduling.
  • Contributing to a positive and dynamic team environment.
  • Assisting the full-time SLC administrative staff with various tasks such as data entry, creating MS Word documents, Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms, photocopying, and data reporting.
  • Completing other assigned tasks as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of both PCs and Macs.
  • Familiarity with general software applications.

Job Requirements

This is a work-study-only position throughout the fall and winter terms. First and second-year undergraduate work-study candidates are preferred for this position.

The candidate must be eligible and available to work the fall 2025 & winter 2026 academic terms. The candidate should have some availability during our hours of operation throughout the semester.

  • The SLC Main location (1720 Chem) is open Monday-Thursday 9 AM-10 PM, Friday 9 AM-6 PM, Saturday noon-6 PM (including football Saturdays) & Sunday noon-10 PM in the fall and winter terms.
  • The SLC Satellite location (2165 USB) is open Monday-Thursday 9 AM-10 PM, Friday 9 AM-4 PM, Closed Saturday, & Sunday noon-10 PM in the fall and winter term

The candidate should have:

  • Basic computer literacy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word)
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Google Calendars, Google Docs, Google Forms, Google Sheets)
  • Familiarity with Canvas
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn MPrint

Educational Value

This position offers hands-on experience in a professional setting. Students will learn basic job skills and gain experience working in a busy public study space and computing lab. In addition, students will receive life skills through various ongoing training, adding an excellent addition to their resume while working a consistent schedule with the potential to pick up additional sub shifts throughout the term.
